The Welsh Language Measure 2011 gives the Welsh language official status in Wales and also included the principle that the Welsh language should be treated no less favourably than the English language.
Life Sciences Hub Wales believes that language is an essential part of a person’s identity and warrants respect. Offering an online service in the chosen language of the user is an integral part of good practice and equal opportunity, and we will strive to do so where practically and financially possible.
It should be recognised that the extent to which we can provide information and services in Welsh, or any other language, will be limited by the capabilities of our staff and the resources that we have available at the time.
We cannot guarantee that we will have a Welsh speaker on-site at all times, so we cannot guarantee that we will be able to respond immediately to Welsh-language enquiries. All written correspondence received in Welsh will be answered in the language of the original correspondence where reasonably practicable.
In line with the Welsh Language Measure 2011, we will strive to treat Welsh and English with equal respect online by ensuring that:
- our Life Sciences Hub Wales corporate logos and digital identity are bilingual
- the homepage and every other page of the website will be bi-lingual and fully functional
- changes to pages will be available in both languages at the same time
- direct links between corresponding language pages will be provided
- the interface and menus of every page of the website will be bi-lingual
This does not apply to:
- content provided by third-party providers to Life Sciences Hub Wales in English only
- links provided to third party content e.g. social media, video, audio, documents, interactive
With any third party content or links to third party content provided or available in English only, the corresponding Welsh language page will state ‘Saesneg yn unig’ (English only).
In addition, Welsh material does not have to appear on the same page as the corresponding English material, or a page which is likely to be found before the English page is found.
The Life Sciences Hub Wales website contains information, news, events, opportunities and organisation/company details related to the life sciences sector. It also contains links to external websites and other relevant sites and media.
In line with the Welsh Language Measure 2011, all content for which Life Sciences Hub Wales is directly responsible is published bilingually where reasonably practicable. Content supplied to us will be uploaded in the original language provided, and we will make third-party providers aware that they can provide content in Welsh and English.
It is the responsibility of the external sites to which we link to conform with their own Welsh Language Scheme, if such a scheme exists, or with the Welsh Language Standards.
We are currently developing and translating content for the Life Sciences Hub Wales website and plan to complete this by mid August 2016.
