We have a thriving innovation culture and excel in connecting industry, business, and government with our academics, nurturing student entrepreneurship and championing grass-roots business development.
We aim to create economic and social prosperity by turning ideas and innovations into products, technologies, spin-outs and start-ups. This will be driven by cutting-edge research, technology transfer, business development and student enterprise.
We call this vision the Cardiff Innovation System, and it is the road map for our future, putting ideas to work, changing Wales and the wider world.
Support comes from a state-of-the-art campus, new centres of excellence, spaces for creativity and novel ways of working. We will push benefits back into the economy to generate further investment, creating a self-sustaining cycle for growth.
Supported by a multi-million pound research and innovation capital development plan, we will transform our working culture and physical landscape, acting as a hub for research and development activity in Wales. This will also fulfil our commitment to boosting growth and prosperity in Wales and reinforcing our civic responsibility.
We are already experts at turning our world-leading research into commercial success, as 85% of all intellectual property (IP) income raised by Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) in Wales is generated by the University.
Since inception, our innovative partnership with Fusion IP has led to more than £40M investment in Cardiff University spin-outs. Our enterprising graduates have established more than 270 start-up companies in the last three years, making us the first HEI in Wales and sixth in the UK for the level of graduate start-ups.
